The Competition Experience

 

CyberTrident Challenge is a professional cybersecurity incident response competition that highlights the interdisciplinary nature of modern cyber defense. The competition is built on the synergy between technical defense, legal compliance, and organizational governance, as managing modern cyber threats requires strategic and legal decisions beyond technical IT tasks. Participants must manage the technical crisis while:

Who Should Apply?

 

Applications are open to individual applicants and teams of 2–3 members.
Note: The competition is conducted in 3-person teams. Individual applicants or incomplete teams will be assigned teammates by the organizers prior to the event.

The organizers strongly encourage interdisciplinary teams consisting of IT/Engineering, Law, and Economics students (though this is not a mandatory requirement).

 

Eligibility:

Students with active enrollment status at any higher education institution.

The competition will be held in Győr at Széchenyi István University on June 18, 2026.

The event is a one-day challenge with an expected duration of 6–8 hours. During the competition, teams will participate in managing a complex cybersecurity incident scenario.

Their task will be to manage the impact of the incident and develop mitigation measures:

  • from an IT perspective (technical analysis and incident investigation)
  • from a legal and compliance perspective
  • from an organizational and management perspective

Roles Within the Team

IT – Technical Analyst Team Member

The IT specialist is responsible for the technical investigation and analysis of the cybersecurity incident. In this role, they perform incident analysis, conduct digital forensic investigations, and collect and evaluate relevant technical evidence. Their responsibilities also include identifying the attack method and exploited vulnerabilities, determining the necessary technical response actions, and developing mitigation and recovery plans.

Legal & Compliance Team Members

These members are responsible for examining the legal, regulatory, and organizational aspects of the incident. Their responsibilities include:

  • identifying relevant legislative and regulatory requirements
  • assessing risks
  • evaluating regulatory compliance (e.g., NIS2, Cybersecurity Act, ISO 27001)
  • determining incident-related reporting obligations
  • briefing the organization’s leadership on incident management measures
